The altometauro region was colonialized in ancient time,  but it was during the middle age that the modern towns were built and still mantain the architectural features from that time, the humanistic and reneissance period enriched the towns with art works and beautiful buildings.

is entirely located in the mountain where the meta and auro get born and flow into each other in the valley below. very interesting are the
towns of Lamoli, with the abbazia benedettina from the VII-VIIIcent., and parchiule. in the territory many touristic services take place.

Mercatello sul Metauro

born in the medioeval time, its urbanistic structure is very interesting because of its palaces and churches. very important is the church-picture gallery,
of san francesco with painting from XIII to XVIIcent., and the collegiata museum rich of church ornaments. very nice are the towns of castel della pieve and s.andrea in corona.
Sant'Angelo in Vado

tiphernum metaurense, still mantains some remains of its roman origin. the town stands
on the point where the valley starts to grow. the interesting towncentre is of medioeval origin and mantains may palaces and churches; noticeable is the palazzo della ragione from XIVcent and the s. maria extra muros church. many valuable annd interesting art works in the many churches.
Peglio

the ancient castrum pilei, stands from a hill on the separation between the foglia and the metauro, from here the landscape is wanderful overlooking the rivers and the valley. although the small dimention of the town it offers touristic accomodation.
Urbania

the XVIIcent. is rich of cultural activities sponsored by the civic museum and the library, both situated in the palazzo ducale, where francesco maria II della rovere, duke of montefeltro prefered to live. from his bequests two cultural istitutions took place and still mantain their
artistic patrimony. very significative is the diocese museum with its very important ceramic collection.
